Is this the job you need?

The finish is what you live with.

Structure is hidden once the plaster is on. Joinery is the part you touch every day, and the first thing a buyer notices.

Joiners and carpenters in Medway

Joinery for Medway homes.

Rochester alone has 241 listed buildings within half a mile of the centre, and Medway has 24 conservation areas. In the Article 4 streets, in Historic Rochester, Watts Avenue, Brompton and Gillingham Park, front windows and doors need planning permission to change, so sash windows and panelled doors there are usually replaced to match the originals.

In newer houses, most joinery comes with an extension or loft: staircases into new loft rooms, doors, skirting and built-in storage.

Including Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester, Strood, Rainham, Maidstone, Sittingbourne, Gravesend, Dartford, Ashford, Canterbury.

How the job runs

Measured twice.

01

Measure and draw

The joiner measures the opening or the room and draws what will fit. Agree the timber, finish and ironmongery before anything is cut.

02

Make

Stairs, units and bespoke pieces are usually made in a workshop; standard joinery is cut and fitted on site.

03

Fit

Fitted plumb, level and tight to the walls, with the scribes and mitres you only notice when they are wrong.

04

Finish

Filled, sanded, primed and painted or oiled. Door furniture on, everything eased so it works first time.

Questions

Asked about joinery.

Can I replace just the staircase?+
Yes. A joiner measures the existing opening and makes a new flight to fit it, usually swapped over in two days with the landing out of use for one night.
Oak or painted?+
Oak for a feature staircase or kitchen; painted softwood or MDF for skirting, architrave and most built-ins, where it finishes better and costs less. Ask to see both before you choose.
Can a joiner fit my kitchen?+
Yes. A joiner can fit a kitchen from any supplier, and some design and make bespoke kitchens in their own workshop.
